Homeless people face multiple barriers – lack of Identification (ID) is just one of them and has an impact on the ability to access other services and benefits that might improve their financial well-being.

Without ID homeless individuals may not be able to request tax slips from Canada Revenue Agency that are required to complete any unfiled income tax returns. These unfiled returns are potential sources of additional funds to cover their basic costs of living. Filing income tax returns are often necessary to apply for other benefit programs such as Rent Assist through the Manitoba Government’s department of Families (Housing) to help them find affordable secure housing.
