General program information

The Dental Internship program, offered at the Health Sciences Centre (HSC), is affiliated with the University of Manitoba and fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada. It is one-year program with a July 1 start date and June 30 end date.

There are two positions available yearly, typically one is offered to applicants with a particular interest in Adult hospital based special needs general dentistry.

Wide experience is obtained in the management of patients in a hospital setting including those whose particular medical or handicapping condition warrants specialized medical and dental care. A busy oral surgery service with a fully accredited residency training program complements and enriches the dental intern's experience.

Experience in all forms of parenteral sedation including IM, IN and IV as well as dental treatment in the operating room setting is standard.

Rotations to the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, the Department of Medicine and Emergency Department form part of the program and the dental intern is encouraged and permitted time for elective study, research, or participation in a suitable clinical activity not already included in the program.
