Health professional excellence through lifelong learning

Serving our diverse communities, we provide evidence-informed educational opportunities to health professionals for life-long learning, competence and sustained practice change, in a culturally safe and responsive manner.

Our Story:
The Continuing Competency and Assessment (CCA) office was formed in 2015 as one of five platforms in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.  The CCA office is responsible for two kinds of activity that are vital to the mission of the Rady Faculty:  

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or Continuing Education: the provision and accreditation of educational activities that maintain and develop the knowledge and skills of health professionals, including the support of interprofessional, collaborative practice;  
  • Clinician Assessment:  the assessment and remediation of health professionals through the hosting of "high stakes" licensure examinations and by offering individualized assessment and remedial learning plans for clinicians re-entering or changing their scope of practice or upon referral from regulatory Colleges or employers.

Our Alignment with the U of M Strategic Plan:
Our work aligns strongly with two of the five Strategic Priorities of the University of Manitoba Strategic Plan 2015-2020, which includes: 

  • Forging Connections to foster high impact community engagement:
    We see clear value in connecting more closely with the practice communities of our various professions who are amongst our most vital partners.  A strong provincial program of continuing education (CPD) helps ensure the continuing competency in practice for all disciplines represented in the FHS.  It also offers a vehicle for engagement with the clinicians on whom we rely for clinical teaching and supervision, many of whom are also our alumni.
  • Inspiring Minds through innovative and quality teaching:
    We are committed to the provision of an outstanding educational experience for our clinician-learners through offering excellent programs, high quality teaching and flexible learning opportunities in a variety of delivery modes.
