Welcome International Students

I've just been admitted to the University of Manitoba.

What should I do now?

Check Outstanding Conditions

• Check your offer of admission letter – ensure that you do not have any outstanding conditions. Birth certificates or passports can be sent in by email.

Official transcripts must be addressed to:

*Please be sure to include your Student Number (found on your admission letter) with any documentation you send to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Activate Accounts

• Activate your myumanitoba.ca email account and claim your UMnetID

Update Personal Information

• If your mailing address, telephone number or any personal information needs to be updated please login to Aurora Student to make these changes

Apply for Study Permit

• Apply for your study permit using your admission letter found in your Self-Service Centre account. Please be aware that the Faculty of Graduate Studies offers an electronic admission letter.

Register

• Registration information can be obtained by contacting your program office directly.

To-Do Checklist

Before You Leave:

• Organize your finances
• Apply for study permit with your admission letter
• Activate your accounts
• Contact your department/unit for information on how to register for courses
• Pay tuition deposit (if applicable)
• Arrange travel health care until you can receive coverage in Manitoba
• Find a place to live
• Sign up for a Welcome Mentor
• Register for Orientation (watch for registration email)
• Sign up for International Centre Events
• Pack for your trip
• Plan to enter Canada and arrange transportation from the airport
Inform yourself on the Manitoba International Student Insurance Plan (MISIP) for health coverage

Once Your Arrive:

• Get your student card
• Get your U-Pass
• Pay your tuition and fees
• Meet with your Welcome Mentor
• Open a bank account
• Get a cell phone/cell phone plan/ SIM card
• Apply for your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
• Activate your Active Living Centre membership 
• Meet with your advisor
• Attend Orientation
• Attend International Centre Events
• Register for GradSteps workshops
