Research Professor

Ph.D. Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, St. Petersburg: Physics and Mathematics
M.Sc. St. Petersburg State University: Oceanography

Research Interests

Dr. Dmitrenko is an expert in physical oceanography. Presently, his research focuses on:

  • Interpretation of temperature, salinity, and current records from moorings deployed over the Arctic shelves and continental slope. This data set is being examined to evaluate the role of tidal and atmospheric forcing in shelf-basin interaction and the redistribution of river run-off water over the shelves;
  • Impact of coastal polynyas on hydrography with respect to brine rejection, vertical mixing, and water dynamics;
  • Pathways, dynamics, variability, and modification of the subsurface Atlantic water in the Arctic Ocean, with a special focus on the upward heat loss.
