FAQ

  • How do I register my child for Kindergarten or Grade 1?

Schools offer information sessions for parents in February or March to help them prepare for Kindergarten or Grade 1 enrolment. The Division advertises sessions in community newspapers and on school signage; the schedule permits parents to attend the session for both of the English and the French Immersion Program schools in their catchment areas. Contact your school if you miss the information sessions and wish to arrange an appointment to register your child.
  • Does my child need student accident insurance?
In September 2006, all students in the Division will automatically be insured under the new universal student accident insurance program. It is designed to complement voluntary student accident insurance, but not replace it.

Voluntary student accident insurance offers additional support for parent(s) / guardian(s), including those who already participate in an employee benefits program that provides health and dental coverage.
  • Which school will my child attend?
The Division's schools serve specific catchment areas. Use our School Locator to determine your designated school, based on your address.

    • Within the Division
Occasionally, students and/or their families may wish them to attend a school other than that designated for their home address. Acceptance is also based on school population, available space and resources. Parent-Initiated Transfer requests are accepted between February 1 and May 15 for the next school year.
    • Outside the Division
Students wishing to transfer to the Louis Riel School Division from another school division must complete a School of Choice application.
