Holodomor Awareness Week

The Official Opening of Holodomor Awareness Week was attended by 1000 people and held at Manitoba Legislative Building on Sunday November 16, 2008. The MC for the event was a member of the Manitoba Legislature, Mr. Len Derkach. His Grace, Metropolitan Lawrance Huculak of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Canada and Rev. Fr. Gene Maximiuk of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada lead the participants in special Holodomor prayers.

Famine Genocide Symposium

Organized by Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre and the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies. The purpose of the Symposium was to bring scholars together to investigate the much neglected study of the Ukrainian Famine-Genocide (Holodomor) of 1932-33. That year Ukraine and the Ukrainian world Diaspora, including Canada and, were commemorating the 75th anniversary of this tragic event in world history.

Serhii Cipko presentation

A presentation, reading and book signing with Serhii (Serge) Cipko, Research Fellow, Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta. Presentation title:"One-Way Ticket, The Soviet Return-to-the-Homeland Campaign", 1955-1960 by Glenna Roberts & Serge Cipko. The event took place at McNally Robinson Bookstore in Winnipeg.

CUCS presents awards

The Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies, presented its 2007-08 awards to 19 students and researchers. Individual awards were presented to undergraduate students in the six courses offered in 2007-08 for highest and high marks.

Dr. Dmytro Burim

Meeting with Dr. Dmytro Burim - Senior Scholar at the Hrushevsky Institute of Archaeography and Archives at the National Academy of Learning Kyiv, Ukraine. Dmytro Burim is a specialist of 20th century Ukrainian history and has completed his doctorate on the Ukrainian historian Dmytro Doroshenko (1882-1951).

BURDON Folk Ensemble performed at U of M

BURDON Folk Ensemble from Lviv, Ukraine will be performing a concert on campus on Friday Feb. 8, 2008 at 12:30 PM at St. John’s College Chapel.  The concert was organized by the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies with the support of St. Andrew’s College, St. John’s College, Dept. of German and Slavic Studies and U of M – Ukrainian Students Union.
