What are the entrance requirements for Graduate Studies in Sociology?

Pre-Master's Year:

  • 3-year degree in Sociology
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 over the last 3 years of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25 in all Sociology and Criminology courses
  • Note: These are the minimum requirements and do not guarantee admission.  The Pre-Master's year is a preparatory year for students who have a 3-year degree in Sociology or Criminology.  Students must have a foundation in Sociology to be eligible.

Master's Program:

  • 4-year Honours degree in Sociology OR a 3-year degree in Sociology plus a Pre-Master's year
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 over the last 3 years of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25 in all Sociology and Criminology courses
  • Note: These are the minimum requirements and do not guarantee admission.

PhD Program:

  • A Master's degree in Sociology from a recognized university
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 based on the last two years of study
  • Note: These are the minimum requirements and do not guarantee admission.

Students may be required to complete extra courses if the committee considers the student to be deficient in course work. A limited number of students are admitted to the program on a competitive basis.
