Do all Criminology degree courses require SOC 2510 as a prerequisite?

Completion of SOC 2510 (Criminology), with a grade of “C” or better, is the prerequisite for almost all other Criminology courses. Notable exceptions are: SOC 3660 (Sociology of Mental Disorder) and SOC 3860 (Genocide and Crime).

The following Criminology courses DO require SOC 2510 as a prerequisite:

  • SOC 2610 (Criminal Justice and Corrections)
  • SOC 3100 (Practicum in Criminology/Sociology Field Research)
    • Only requires 2510 if used toward a Criminology Major
  • SOC 3310 (Theorizing Crime, Law & Social Justice)
  • SOC 3400 (Policing & Crime Prevention)
  • SOC 3410 (Critical Victimology)
  • SOC 3700 (Sociology of Law)
  • SOC 3710 (Criminal Careers)
  • SOC 3720 (Criminal Law and Procedure)
  • SOC 3740 (Selected Topics in Criminology)
  • SOC 3750 (Institutional Responses to Violence)
  • SOC 3790 (Women, Crime and Social Justice)
  • SOC 3830 (Youth, Crime and Society)
  • SOC 3850 (Restorative Justice)
