Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Utah, Research Fellow at the Political Economy Research Institute, and author of “The Rise of China and the Demise of the Capitalist World System” (Monthly Review Press). Arrested in China in 1990 for his political activism and public advocacy of democracy in the late 1980s, Dr. Li has since emerged as one of the world’s foremost experts on Chinese political economy and its significance for the world system.
