The Department of German and Slavic Studies invites abstracts for its annual Undergraduate Conference to be held on Thursday, March 18th, 2021. The purpose of the conference is to showcase and celebrate undergraduate research, so if you have written an interesting paper, given a fun presentation or are currently working on an exciting project related to German and Slavic Studies, we cordially invite you to participate. Giving a presentation at a conference is an important academic skill, a way to share your research and ideas with other students and faculty members, to get feedback on your work, and an important addition to your cv.

Presentations can focus on all fields related to German and Slavic Studies, such as language, literature, history, popular culture, film, music, philosophy, psychology, pedagogy etc. and you do not have to be a major or minor in the Department of German and Slavic Studies to submit your abstract. Each presentation is limited to 15 minutes. Based on feedback from the audience, the top three presenters will receive an award. Due to the pandemic restrictions, the conference will be held online via Zoom.

The conference organizers will also host a workshop on how to present at a conference soon after the deadline for submissions. Date and time are TBA. This workshop is voluntary and open to everyone who is interested; however, we highly recommended it to those who will present.

Please submit your abstract (max. 300 words) outlining your project and a short bio indicating your department as well as your major and minor to german_slavic@umanitoba.ca with the subject title as ‘German and Slavic Studies Undergraduate Conference’ no later than February 24th.
