Orly Linovski, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Department of City Planning
317 John A. Russell Building

My research and teaching is motivated by a concern with the social and political production of the built form. I am interested in the links between political processes, professional practices and the shaping of urban space. I am fundamentally interested in research that is focused on issues of social justice and is relevant to professional planners.

I am currently working on (1) a SSHRC-funded project that examines how equity goals can be integrated in transportation decision-making, and (2) a project exploring the nature of professional practice in publicly-traded firms. My previous research has examined planning processes through a variety of lenses, include the role of private sector consultants, the evolution of design plans over time and constructions of professional expertise.

I received my PhD in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles and a M.Sc. in Urban Planning from the University of Toronto. Previously, I worked in planning and policy at the municipal and provincial levels. I am a Registered Professional Planner and active with the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute.
