Shawn is a member of the Metis Nation of Ontario, a husband and a father.  His work is rooted in gratitude for traditional Indigenous knowledge and its potential to inform contemporary practice and pedagogy.  His intuitive devotion drives him to explore the intersections between indigenous teachings, sustainability, and relationality.

Recognized for his teaching, Shawn was honoured with the ASCA (Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture) New Faculty Teaching Award, highlighting his commitment to education.  Furthermore, his approach to teaching and collaboration with community partners has garnered recognition from the university's Indigenous Community, acknowledging his dedication to incorporating Indigenous perspectives into education.

Shawn aims to introduce Indigenous knowledge into curriculum development and design.  His research endeavours revolve around understanding how indigenous teachings can guide us toward renewed sustainability practices, emphasizing the importance of our relationship with the land and each other.

In addition, Shawn maintains a small practice that complements his design research.  He explores innovative representation techniques that foster a deeper connection with the land, transcending preconceived notions and embracing intentional design processes.  Through his research, teaching, and design practice, he strives to create spaces and initiatives that honour and promote Indigenous knowledge, ultimately fostering sustainable and culturally inclusive futures.
