KEYNOTE 9:30 KANTEN RUSSELLLaunching Into Action: Creating the Modern
Action sports – like skateboarding and BMX riding – open the door of activity to
kids who aren’t necessarily interested in traditional sports. An added bonus is
that action sport parks can be built almost anywhere, including forgotten, abandoned
brownfield sites, which helps revitalize the area and the community. This discussion
will highlight how action sports fit into a community’s programming, strategies for
design, and examples from communities across North America to help the
audience better understand how action sports can help get more kids off the couch
and into parks.
