You can find all UM news about COVID-19, including FAQs for students, on this page, which is updated when new information becomes available.
“ALL IN-PERSON CLASSES FOR SUMMER SESSION 2020 HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. DEPARTMENTS ARE ACTIVELY NOTIFYING IMPACTED STAFF. CHECK UM CAREER FOR NEW POSTINGS FOR SUMMER SESSION. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING YOUR EMPLOYMENT STATUS FOR IN-PERSON SUMMER SESSION CLASSES, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR HOME DEPARTMENT.”
Given the disruption to teaching caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the University is offering three options for your Winter term grades. You may select one of these options for each of your courses, but you must do so by May 10. If you choose to do nothing, the standard approach will automatically apply.
Have you decided that you want to change a grade? Log into UM Learn!
The widget in UMLearn will be available to students to exclude their
final grades from their GPA on Friday, May 1 at 9:00 am, and will
remain open until midnight on May 10. After May 10 students must
make their request through their Academic Advisor.
Make sure you talk to an Academic Advisor to talk about your options
before logging into UM Learn.
The three options are:
• Standard approach: You can accept the letter grade you received. This is the default grading approach and your letter grade will be used in GPA calculations.
• Option 1: You can accept the letter grade received, but have it excluded from your UM GPA calculations. Your letter grade will appear on the transcript, with a note that you chose to exclude it from UM GPA calculations.
Note that if you select this option, GPA calculations that involve a specified number of credit hours (e.g. “GPA over your most recent 30 credit hours”) will be performed using grades from earlier in your degree.
• Option 2: You can choose to receive a “pass” grade if you receive a grade of D or higher. No letter grade will be recorded on your transcript and a note will indicate that you chose this approach. The “pass” grade will be excluded from UM GPA calculations, which is the normal way “pass” grades are treated at UM. These pass grades will have no letter grade equivalent.
Note that this option is not acceptable for courses to be used as prerequisites (see below).
Important note regarding Option 2: as noted in the Faculty’s Degree Regulations (Academic Calendar, section 3.4), minimum grades of C are required in all courses listed as prerequisites, except as otherwise noted in the course descriptions. As a “Pass” under option 2 applies to any letter grade of D or above, courses taken under option 2 will not be usable as prerequisites.
Regardless of the choice that you make with respect to course grading, you must meet all existing admission, prerequisite, progression, degree, and graduation policies and requirements that may apply to you:
Note that regardless of the option chosen, failing (F) grades for Winter term, 2020 will not be included in University of Manitoba GPA calculations.
Please talk to an academic advisor before selecting your grading options; they will be able to help you chose the best option for your circumstances and will have the most up-to-date information.

The Co-op office is doing our best to try to keep things business as usual. We continue to search for and post job opportunities as well as submit Co-op application packages to our employers by the deadline dates provided. We encourage our Co-op students to continue to do the say by viewing the Co-op jobs and submit application materials in Orbis. Both Leslie (Leslie.Goodman@umanitoba.ca) and Jodena (Jodena.Baertsoen@umanitoba.ca) are available via email should you require any assistance or have questions.
