How to Configure Outlook 2010 for Windows to Use Exchange E-mail

 To configure an email account for Outlook 2010, you must use the account setup wizard.  The wizard may appear when starting Outlook for the first time:

1. Click Next

2. Select Next to Configure your email account. Click Next.

3. When the Auto Account Setup screen comes up "E-mail Account" should be selected.

 

 

  • Type your name as you wish others to see it
  • Type your U of M Email Address (which should be in the form: firstname.lastname@umanitoba.ca)
  • Type your password for the U of M Exchange email server into both password fields
  •  

     

     Exchange Outlook 2010 Auto Account

    Click Next
    Outlook 2010 will then connect to the Exchange server to set up your account.

    4. Outlook 2010 may ask you for your username and password to verify your account. 

    • For User name: type "ad\" followed by your UMnetID (for example, "ad\smithj")

    • Type your password for the U of M Exchange email server 

    5. Outlook will search for server settings.

     

    This could take some time.

    Click Finish once complete. Your Exchange account has now been setup.

    In addition to the basic setup as followed above, IST recommends making the following change to your account settings. This change will improve the performance of Outlook when communicating to our Exchange system.

    This change can be made by clicking on the File ribbon, and clicking on Account Settings.


    Click to highlight your account labeled Microsoft Exchange, and then click on the Change button.



    On the following screen, click on the More Settings button.

    Click on the Connection tab, then click on the Exchange Proxy Settings button.

    Ensure there is a checkmark in box titled On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then using TCP/IP

    Click OK to close the Proxy Settings window.
    Click OK to close the Microsoft Exchange settings window.
    Click Close to close your Account Settings window.

    Outlook is now fully setup and configured.
