Financial Resources

In 1999 The Federated Insurance Company in Winnipeg made a core funding gift of $500,000 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba for the University of Manitoba's Lipid, Lipoprotein and Atherosclerosis Research Group to develop the Centre. The Heart and Stroke Foundation has also agreed to make in-kind donations for the public awareness programs.

In order to protect the core funding and provide support for subsequent years, the Lipid, Lipoprotein and Atherosclerosis Research Group continues to seek alternate funds from external and internal sources for the operation of the Centre (in lieu of expending the core funding).

Additional Funds

Drs. Hatch, Choy and Mymin have been successful in obtaining significant funding through extra mural operating grant competitions and clinical trials. The Center has been successful in obtaining significant funding from various pharmaceutical companies for Cardiovascular Risk Factor Clinics as well as the yearly CRTA Seminar Series. In the past five years 25 world leaders in lipid biology have given seminars to Basic Scientists and Clinicians through the CRTA Seminar Series Program.

Expenditures

An account number is set up at the University of Manitoba Purchasing Department to direct funds provided by the Federated Insurance Company through the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Drs. G.M. Hatch, P.C. Choy, and D. Mymin have signing authority on this account. These funds are currently being used for the research objectives of the Centre.
