ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
English is the language of instruction and communication at the University of Manitoba. The University and the Faculty of Graduate Studies determines the English requirements for a student to be successful in their graduate program. In some cases, Departments will have higher English language requirements for their programs.
Tentative Approval for admissions by an academic advisor within ECE or the submission of an application and payment of processing fees is not a guarantee admissions to the Graduate Program. All applications are reviewed by the Department and the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Final approval rests with the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
All students are responsible for the content of their Admissions Application and in making sure that the instructions and procedures are followed for the proper submission of an Admissions Application which includes obtaining Tentative Acceptance from a professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer in advance of the submission of an official admissions application.
The University recognizes that the English Exam should not be a requirement for those born and raised in certain countries. Please click the link below to see a list of countries whose students are not required to submit qualifying English Language Exam scores for the review of their admissions application to the graduate program at the University of Manitoba.
Acceptable English Language Proficiency Exams & OVERALL minimum required scores:
Intensive Academic English Program (IAEP) - minimum, overall score of 65% is required.
(PLEASE CHECK SCORE REQUIREMENT with the FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES to make sure this score requirement is current).
If the IAEP program is taken at the University of Manitoba, in order to qualify to gain admissions to the Graduate Program students MUST register for IAEP 5 and MUST PASS THE COURSE -- in this case the course is equivalent to taking one of the recommended English Language Proficiency Exam -- no additional English Language Proficiency Exam is required.
For course information please see http://www.umanitoba.ca/student/elc/fulltime/index.php.
