Auxiliary, Audit, & Occasional (Course Category)
AX = Auxiliary Course: is not a major requirement of the student's degree program, but is required by the student’s advisor.*
AU = Audit Course: is not taken for credit. No grade is recorded. **
OS = Occasional Course: is not a requirement of the program. ***
S = Standard Course are courses required by the Academic Advisor, Department, and Faculty/University for the student's research. Standard Courses vary with each student and their research.
NOTE:
Changes in course classifications are regarded as course/program changes and may not be made without approval nor may be made after the deadline dates for course changes.Students registering through the Aurora should add only those courses that are a Standard or Required in their research program and approved by their Academic Advisor. Courses with “AX”, “AU”, “C”, or “OS” status must be added by the FGS and REGISTRAR'S OFFICE.

- Department Head, and
- Faculty of Graduate Studies
* AX: Extra courses which are not actually part of the Master’s or Ph.D. program but which are specified and required by the student’s advisor , may be classified as AX (Auxiliary) and the grade will not be included in the Degree GPA which appears on the transcript. However...
** AU: Graduate students auditing courses must register for the course(s) and will be charged a fee equal to one half of the fee normally associated with that course.
*** OS: Occasional Courses are courses taken by graduate students in addition to those approved for their degree programs and are classifed as OS (occasional) under "Course Category." For these courses, students are assessed the appropriate undergraduate fee based on teaching department for all courses taken. Fees paid for such courses are not transferable to a degree program at a later date.
****STANDARD: Standard Courses are those required by the Department and Faculty (FGS) for graduation consideration. These courses are considered the MINIMUM course requirements for graduation consideration.
