A long-time fixture in professional skateboarding, Kanten Russell is now a lead designer in Stantec’s Action Sport Group. Growing up in Southern California—the birthplace of action sports—Kanten was a professional skateboarder for 13 years. After retiring from skateboarding, he studied civil engineering and landscape architecture as he transitioned into an action sport park designer. To date, Kanten has led the design process of over 75 skateparks in North America and abroad, including the world’s first “green” skatepark in St. Cloud, Minnesota and the recently opened skate plaza in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, which converted a brownfield into an active sport space intended to help combat childhood obesity. Kanten is a frequent speaker on trends in action sports and how communities can incorporate them into their parks and recreation programming.

Atmosphere is generously supported by the Faculty of Architecture Endowment Fund and the following professional associations: the Manitoba Association of Architects (MAA); the Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects (MALA); and the Professional Interior Designers Institute of Manitoba (PIDIM).
