Safety for Supervisors

The "Safety for Supervisors" training resource is available in three formats to assist supervisors in understanding their responsibilities. 

In order to complete the program, all supervisors are required to complete and pass a short multiple choice test on the duties of supervisors under Manitoba Health and Safety legislation. Instructions to access the test are below under "Required Test".

Learning Resources

"Safety for Supervisors" training is available in three different formats:

Training sessions for the Bannatyne Campus will be scheduled based on sufficient interest.  Please contact EHS by email at to be added to the wait list.  When there is sufficient interest, a training date will be set based upon the participants' availability.

Required Test

The Province requires that we are able to demonstrate that any safety and health training provided was effective. The Safety for Supervisors test is a short, multiple-choice online test. Successful completion of this test will indicate that you have completed Safety for Supervisors training.

You are welcome to challenge the test at any time.

The Safety for Supervisors test is accessed through UM Learn

Instructions to Access Test in UM Learn

  1. Login to UM Learn using your UMNetID and password.
    • For personnel who are not eligible to claim a UMNetID (i.e. a volunteer, contract worker, visiting academic, or sessional who is engaged or supported by your department but who is not currently a U of M employee), go to this page and complete the "Individual Sponsored Account" form. We suggest submitting the form at least 2 weeks before the person's start date so that the account is ready to use.
    • For personnel who previously had access with their UMNetID, go to this page and complete the "Individual Sponsored Account" form to reactivate your account for UMLearn.
  2. On the main page, click on "Self Registration" and find "Safety for Supervisors" in the Course Offering Name list.
  3. Click on “Safety for Supervisors” and complete the registration process.
  4. You must get a score of 8/15 or 53% to pass the test and complete the training. Upon successful completion, a certificate will be generated that you save as a PDF and print. This certificate can be submitted as proof . *NOTE: the system will take 5 minutes after the quiz has been completed for the certificate to become available.
  5. The certificates can be accessed at any time (see *NOTE above) under Assessments > Awards.
