Road Closures

Dysart Road Condensate Leak

  • Timeframe (est.): Starting February 13, 2023 until early November 

  • Overview: Dysart Rd. is now open. Sidney Smith St. at Dysart Rd. will be closed until November. During the closure, access to Parking Lot Q is off Dysart Rd. see map for location.
    Construction activity is due to a condensate leak and ongoing steam/condensate replacement project. 
    Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Road Construction and Infrastructure Renewal

    Please be advised that campus wide road construction and infrastructure renewal work is expected to continue through the fall. Please refer to the attached map and information below:

    •    Zone 1: Dysart Road closed at Sidney Smith Street for a steam line replacement. Dysart Rd. to reopen mid-September with project completion anticipated in November. See previous story: UM Today | Dysart Road closure — update (umanitoba.ca)
    •    Zone 2: Curry Place south of the Education Building will be impacted by storm sewer repair starting late July. 
    •    UPDATE - Zone 3: Dafoe Road surface rehabilitation is now complete. Dafoe Road and adjacent Parking Lots are now open. Transit has resumed normal operations.
    •    Zone 4: University Crescent will be impacted by construction to address a condensate leak. One lane will be closed southbound University Cres. during construction.
    •    Campus-wide road, parking lot and walkway repairs in July/August.

    Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

  • RO Water Shutdown.  We are currently experiencing higher than normal chlorine levels at 0.04 ppm instead of our target 0.00 ppm chlorine. We are working to reduce the chlorine levels and anticipate they will be back to normal within 8 hours.

Architecture 2

  • Overview: Washrooms located at rooms 113 and 114 in the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the drain line in the crawl space.
    Our plumbing shop is currently working on formulating a repair plan to address the issue promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
    In the meantime, we will be posting signs to help direct you to the nearest available bathroom locations within the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

  • Overview: Please be advised that power to panel 4AA will be shut off to accommodate the installation of new circuit breakers on Tuesday 04/05/2024 between the hours of 06:00 a.m. to 08:00 a.m.  All receptacles , fans and equipment connected to panel 4AA will have no power for the shutdown period. Please ensure computers and equipment connected to panel 4AA are turned off prior to leaving work on Monday to ensure proper start up on Tuesday morning. Rooms affected include but are not limited to 325, 325A, 325B, 327, 327A, 328 & 328A all outlets on level 300 BMSB identified with the prefix 4AA on the cover plate will be without power.

  • Building Maintenance & Construction Category: Fire Alarm Verification and Bells Ringing for Generator Commissioning  

  • Overview: Please be advised of the fire alarm verification and bells ringing for the generator commissioning on Monday, 04/01/2024 between the hours of 7:00 am. to 9:00 am. During the fire alarm verification, fire bells/ horns will be pulsed for 5 seconds repetitively between the hours of 7:00 am. to 8:00 am. in Chown. It’s important to note that if a true fire alarm happens to coincide with fire alarm testing, fire bells/ horns will stop pulsing and will ring continuously, indicating that you must exit the building and follow established evacuation procedures. Reminder, pulsating fire alarm bells/ horns indicate fire alarm testing and do not require evacuation.

Basic Medical Science Building

    Hours of work:6 PM to 6 AM

  • Overview: A pre-qualified abatement contractor has been employed for the scope of work. All work is to be performed in accordance with Workplace Safety and Health Regulations for the province of Manitoba, in addition to University standards.
    Throughout the abatement, external environmental health and safety consultants as well as University staff will be reviewing the work for compliance purposes. In addition, inspections will be performed by an external consulting agency throughout the duration of the project.
    It is University practice to remove impacted materials in a timely mannor to ensure the safety and health of faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
