For more information, see the Staff Relations website

Bargaining Principles

The University and AESES are committed to negotiate the collective agreement using the interest-based process. We endeavour to share information openly and participate in discussions on a range of options with the understanding that no final commitments will be made until the end.

Together, we share the following goals:

  • Foster a collegial and respectful environment.
  • Focus on the efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Create a flexible and adaptable workforce with an appreciation for employees’ needs for work-life balance.
  • Commit to work together in addressing areas of concern for the University and AESES.

Communication Updates

December 9, 2015: In a vote among AESES members, 91 % of voting members elected to accept the new collective agreement. The agreement includes general salary increases; all information can be found on the Staff Relations website.

November 27, 2015: Tentative agreement reached with AESES. The University of Manitoba has reached a tentative agreement for a new contract with the Association of Employees Supporting Education Services (AESES) bargaining group, which represents 2,600 support staff. The agreement remains to be ratified by ASES membership. More information to follow after the ratification meeting.

October 2, 2015: Due to vacation schedules, AESES and the University were not able to meet until September 17, 2015. At that meeting, AESES responded to the university's financial offer. We are currently reviewing the offer and the parties will meet on October 15, 2015. Further updates to follow.

August 24, 2015: After 14 bargaining sessions, both AESES and the University have now resolved the majority of the non-monetary issues and have proceeded to the discussion of monetary items.  AESES is currently considering a financial offer from the University and we anticipate reconvening in early September to hear their response.

April 16, 2015: Bargaining between the University of Manitoba and AESES began on April 15, 2015, with additional meetings scheduled April 22, May 6, 13, 27, June 3, 17 and 24.
