UMFA Retirement Allowance Program
The UMFA Retirement Allowance Program is a voluntary plan offering a full or partial basic allowance to the eligible member, dependent upon his/her age and the number of advance years of notice given to the University prior to retirement.

To be eligible, the member must be at least 55 years of age and have at least 15 years of service at the University of Manitoba on the date that they have chosen as their retirement date. The date of retirement must be either July 1st or January 1st of a calendar year (with last day of work June 30th or December 31st respectively).

  • December 31, 2017
  • June 30, 2018
  • Dec 31, 2018 - deadline extended to January 3, 2019
  • June 30, 2019
  • Dec 31, 2019
  • June 30, 2020
  • December 31, 2020 (end date of program)

Due to various exception requests for the program, the University and UMFA have agreed upon a set of guidelines for exception requests. The guidelines outline 12 possible requests and resolutions, see the attached guidelines.

The UMFA Collective Agreement 2017 - 2021 has been amended by the new exception criteria (see Appendix F on webpage):
