Suspension

If a student is unable to achieve a minimum term GPA of 2.0 or better while on Probation, they will be placed on a 1-Year Academic Suspension and will be unable to register for further courses until the end of the suspension period.

Students are encouraged to meet with a University 1 Academic Advisor to discuss Suspension and their options. If a suspended student feels their personal situation warrants a review of their academic assessment, students must contact a University 1 Academic Advisor within 10 working days of receiving official notice of suspension. To review your academic assessment, please fill out this Request for Review of Academic Assessment form before meeting with an Academic Advisor. Students may also wish to contact the Office of Student Advocacy if a review is requested.

While being suspended is not welcomed news to students, University 1 and the University of Manitoba will take this step in order to prevent students from studying without a reasonable chance of entering a faculty. Given the investment of both time and money made by all university students, University 1 and the University of Manitoba cannot, in good conscience, allow students to continue in repeated unsuccessful terms of study.

Students are encouraged to use their year away from university as an opportunity to improve their academic skills and develop a new strategy for success. University 1 Academic Advisors, as well as the links found on the Resources/Tools for U1 Students page, can help students improve their skills during their year off with high school upgrading, university prep-courses and general study and career planning skills.
