Students from the University of Manitoba will have the opportunity to take part in a local Alternative Reading Week from February 21-24th, 2012. The program allows University of Manitoba undergraduate and graduate students to travel to Winnipeg agencies and volunteer organizations. The goal is for students to learn more about social justice issues, and the actions that can be taken locally to help make a stronger community. Program participants will be led through a reflection sessions at the end of each day. The reflection sessions are designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the community initiatives at large, and to highlight how as individuals they can make a positive impact in our community.
The partner agencies for this program are: Winnipeg Harvest, NEEDS Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg, and the United Way Winnipeg.
The Alternative Reading Week Winnipeg is a joint venture between the University of Manitoba Students' Union and Student Life. We are pleased to partner together in the creation of valuable programming for students.
