Excellence award laureate Larry Baillie is featured in the Winnipeg Free Press
December 20, 2007
Larry Baillie, a first-level in-course award winner from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was featured in an article in the Winnipeg Free Press (“Magician, mascot, painter, student” by Nick Martin, November 19, 2007). Larry was recognized for his work in educating people about hidden disabilities, including brain injuries. His story is especially remarkable considering that he personally recovered from a serious brain injury in 1990. Larry is 48 years old and in his final year of studies at the University of Manitoba, where he is studying social work. Outgoing U of M President Dr. Emöke Szathmáry, who met Larry at a scholarship reception in October, called Larry a “remarkable individual” and “an extraordinary example of one who has experienced adversity, opportunity and success.”
