Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Waitlist?

Waitlist is an Aurora registration function that is available on select courses, allowing you to be added to a waitlist and notified if/when a space becomes available in that course section.

Important notes:

  • You will receive a notification to your @myumanitoba email account - be sure to check back often! Remember to Claim Your ID at http://umanitoba.ca/computing/ist/service_catalogue/access/accounts/2513.html in order to receive these notifications.
  • You will have a 24 hour period (unless otherwise stated) from when you receive the notification to either register for the course or to remove yourself from the Waitlist.

Registering for a Waitlist:

  • Is not the same as registering for the course
  • Does not guarantee a space in a course
  • Does not guarantee that you are eligible to register for the course*
*Even if you receive a Waitlist notice that a space has opened, you will be prevented from registering for the course if you are not eligible to take it.
  • Note that prerequisites and co-requisites are checked when waitlisting, except when waitlisting for labs.  You are responsible for ensuring you have the prerequisite or co-requisite for the course when you waitlist for a lab.  Without the prerequisite or co-requisite you will be prevented from registering in the course if space is offered to you.

Additional resources:

How do I know if a course has a Waitlist?

Each course section includes the following details:

  • WL Cap: The number of spaces are available in the course Waitlist
  • WL Act: The number of Waitlist spaces that have been taken
  • WL Rem: The number of Waitlist spaces that remain

New Waitlists may be added to courses after they become full.  You are encouraged to check back regularly to see if a Waitlist has been added to any course that you wish to take.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How will I know if a space has opened up, and who it is for?

Priority on the waitlist and the notification of available space is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If a space becomes available, the next student on the Waitlist will receive an email notice to their @myumanitoba email account.  You will have a 24 hour period (unless otherwise stated) to add the course.

  • How to I know my position on the waitlist?

You may monitor your place on the Waitlist from your 'Student Detail Schedule', in Aurora.  To get here, go to 'Enrolment & Academic Records' > 'Registration and Exams' > 'Student Detail Schedule'.

If it is your turn to register
, your 'Waitlist Position' will be '0' and will be accompanied by a 'Notification Expires' date and time - this is your deadline to register for the course.

  • What happens if I received a Waitlist notification, but missed the 24 hour period to register?

You will be removed from the Waitlist; you may re-add yourself, but will be placed at the end of the list.

  • Will registering for a Waitlist count toward the maximum credit hours I can take?

Waitlist registration will not count toward the maximum credit hours you are allowed to take. But, if you have already reached your maximum course load before receiving a Waitlist notification, you will need to drop a course section before attempting to register for the waitlisted section.

  • Can I put myself on the Waitlist for multiple sections of the same course?

You are not allowed to register/waitlist in duplicate sections of the same course.
  • Can I go on a Waitlist in a course section that has a "time conflict" with another course I am already registered for?

You will not be able to go on a waitlist for a course that has a time conflict with another course you are registered in.
  • Will I ever be removed from the Waitlist?

If you receive a Waitlist notice that a space has opened and you do not register within the period of time given, you will be removed from the Waitlist.

Waitlist functionality becomes inactive at the end of the registration revision period, and no further Waitlist notifications will be sent out.  A short while later, you will notice that your waitlisted course sections are no longer listed in your Aurora account.

You MUST NOT withdraw from the Waitlist at the end of the registration revision period as your fee statement will be impacted and fees will be charged. Students will be automatically removed from Waitlists.
