Peers: SHS

So, who are we?

We are an approachable and confidential resource for students who have questions, need to talk with someone about personal issues, want information on different issues or topics or have academic questions or concerns. Peers are:

  • Supportive listeners
  • Campus connectors
  • Skilled communicators
  • Friendly students

All services are confidential* and are available to all student members of the university community at no charge.

We work on a drop-in basis, so feel free to stop by or call us.

The Peers: SHS program is jointly funded by University of Manitoba Students' Union and Student Affairs.

*Confidentiality Statement

The Peers: SHS program defines confidentiality as an environment where students can openly discuss their issues with an unbiased, trained listener, who is also a fellow student. The discussion stays within the Peers: SHS program. Sometimes confidentiality must be extended to outside support. This occurs when:

  • The welfare or safety of a child (anyone under the age of 18) is at risk (i.e. child abuse and/or neglect).
  • There is an intention to harm another individual.
  • There is an intention to harm one's self.
