
IDW 2012 will be showcasing issues surrounding water accessibility with local and global perspectives, as well as connecting students with nongovernmental organizations that are working on these and other development related projects from right here in Manitoba.
The aim is to engage and awaken our campus while providing all of us with the tools for engagement and critical discussion that will deepen our understandings on this pivotal area of development in our world today. We invite all students, faculty, staff, and guests to join us and we look forward to meeting you all as the week unfolds.

Water is a vital aspect of our everyday lives, and often goes unappreciated. What would you do without water? TED is a leader in global awareness, addressing many of the questions and issues facing humanity today. Come, listen and be inspired by these videos as speakers from around the world attempt to present solutions to some of the world's toughest problems today.

A panel discussion on water sanitation worldwide
54% of people in Africa don't have access to safe drinking water. The UN has a goal to halve the number of people that don't have access to safe water by 2015. Will this goal be reached? Come out for a panel discussion exploring some of the different issues and as well as the methodologies that are involved in making drinking water safer for everyone around the world.

IS WATER A RIGHT?
A roundtable interdisciplinary discussion on water accessibility with both local and global perspectives
This World W.I.S.E. key note event for International Development Week 2012 will feature a roundtable discussion exploring, through a multidisciplinary lens and from both global and local perspectives, the issues surrounding the lack of running water in First Nations communities of Manitoba. We'll be inviting researchers from the University of Manitoba to share their ideas and potential solutions and as such hope to raise awareness, invigorate discussion and inspire productive action from within our student community.

Connecting University of Manitoba students with organizations and opportunities related to activism and social development that are based right here in Winnipeg, Manitoba
Who's Who is an opportunity to connect, share and plan for greater impact. The event will host development organizations from across the campus and around the city, all of whom are working for a better world and have much to learn from each other. This is a chance to collaborate with amazing individuals and organizations, and to welcome newcomers to the world of international development.
