TRANSPORTATION

TRANSPORTATION -- FROM THE AIRPORT

If you don’t have someone meeting you at the airport, you can get to the U of M or your accommodation by taking a TAXI or a PUBLIC TRANSIT BUS.  Because there is limited space on public transit buses to carry luggage, many students choose to take a taxi.

TAXI

  • You can take a taxi (also called a “cab”) from the Winnipeg International Airport to the U of M for approximately $35 - $40 CDN.

  • Taxi fares in Manitoba are regulated.  You can not negotiate a price.

  • Most taxis accept cash or major credit cards for payment.

  • If the service was good, it is acceptable to give the driver a tip (usually 10-15% of the total fare).

  • There are normally several taxis waiting outside of the airport that you can choose from.

PUBLIC TRANSIT BUS

Although the bus is more affordable, it may not be a convenient way to get to the U of M or your accommodation when you first arrive.

  • You can take the following buses from the airport to the U of M:
    #36, 60, 61, 62, 72, 75, 76, and 78

  • Bus fare is currently $2.30 per person if paying with cash – exact change is required.  Bus fare is subject to increase.  Check the Winnipeg Transit website (http://www.winnipegtransit.com/) for current rates.
