Our next members meeting is this Wednesday, November 26, 5:30pm at 108 Drake. This upcoming meeting will bring you up to date on the offerings that UMMA provides, including the upcoming conference and our mentorship program.
Our guest speaker will be Deborah Fehr, the Head of Marketing for Folklorama. Also, we will be giving away prizes to our members, courtesy of MTS. Plus, we will announce the winner of the Magellan Vacations logo competition. Did you win the potential $500 prize?

To celebrate the return of RetroWinnipeg, I've got a challenge for those who are interested: I've devised an AMV on RetroWinnipegPlus, and the first person to reply to this video with the name of the show where the audio comes from will have a $25 donation made in his or her name to Special Olympics Manitoba.

42nd Annual Commerce Business Banquet - Get your tickets November 3
It's that time of year again! The annual Commerce Business Banquet is Thursday, November 20 at the Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel.
What is it? It's a big gathering of students and employers that includes guest speakers and a fine meal staged at the elegant Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel. Students make valuable contacts with representatives from different companies and learn about the local business climate.
Tickets go on sale November 3 at 8:30am, and they go fast!
This year's keynote speaker is The Apprentice 1 winner Bill Rancic. Since winning the former NBC hit series, Bill has toured across North America giving speeches and written a New York Times best-selling book, in addition to working with Donald Trump.
The special guest speaker is Gail Asper, the daughter of our faculty benefactor, Israel H. Asper. She is a director of CanWest Global and a strong advocate of the Canadian Human Rights Museum, the latter of which is envisioned to be the largest human rights centre in the world, located here in Winnipeg.
Be sure to get your ticket early to ensure that you sit with a company of your choosing. Tables fill up on a first-come, first serve basis. For more details, and a list of all the company tables that will be attending this year, click here.
Lastly, the Career Development Centre is holding a workshop on November 12th to help students get ready for the banquet. It takes place in Room 537 at 1:00PM and is aptly named "Much Ado About the Business Banquet". It is strongly recommended that students attend this event if they are attending the banquet for the first time.

November 5 - International Student Day of Action
Students in Manitoba Walk-Out in Protest of plans to raise college and university tuition fees. This is our future!
Thousands of community members, high school, university, and college students across the province of Manitoba are taking part in an International Day of Action to defend education. Lower Fees and Increased Access! Students are protesting across the world!
Students will be converging on the Manitoba Legislative Building steps at 1:00 pm on November 5th, 2008. This will be a day to remember!
11 AM to NOON - Rally at the Admin Building (Across from University Centre)
12 NOON Boarding Buses to the Legislative Buildings.

UMMA Charity Pancake Breakfast - November 4 & 5
Get your taste buds ready. Our annual charity pancake breakfast takes place on November 4 & 5 from 9:30am to 1:00pm by the library at Drake Centre.
Help support Special Olympics Manitoba by making a minimum $2 donation (additional donations encouraged) and receive a plate of pancake, decorated to your tastes!
We have Dean Mossman and Reg Alcock flipping pancakes on November 5th, so come out for a good cause.
We might be in need for a few more volunteers for this two-day event, so contact Amanda for all the details.

Welcome! First meeting September 24!
Welcome to another year of study at the University of Manitoba. It's a new year at UMMA too. New board. New ideas. New website. It's still a work in progress at this point, but expect a lot of great content on the UMMA website this year (and look at our Facebook page, as well as RSS feeds and widgets soon, for those who want info at their convenience).
It's not too late to sign up for UMMA. We will have a booth in the Drake Centre at the Fishbowl from September 22-25, so sign up today for only $10, plus receive a free gift upon payment. Or sign up at our first meeting!
Our first meeting is this Wednesday, September 24 at 5:30pm in room 543 at Drake Centre. Food will be served, so I hope all you members (and potential members too) come out. We will also have a guest speaker from Magellan Vacations coming in, so there's a lot in store in meeting #1.

UMMA Elections
This is a call to all interested UMMA members that our annual election for the President and Vice-President positions will be upcoming soon. More information will be sent to UMMA members and posted here regarding the rules of the election. If there is any questions in the meantime, please refer them to umma.group@gmail.com.
Annual UMMA Corporate Wine & Cheese
UMMA's annual Corporate Wine & Cheese, presented by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, is being held February 7, 2008 at the Delta Hotel. Definitely a can't miss event for marketing students to network. All UMMA members receive a free ticket to go (although a returnable $10 deposit is required). Non-UMMA members can also attend for just $10. Tickets are available at the Drake Centre, or by contacting umma.group@gmail.com.
