Internal awards note: If a deadline falls on a weekend/holiday for an internal UM award, we will accept applications on the next working day. External awards may not so please check with the source of the award directly.

Flying Officer George Finkle Memorial Scholarship: A $650 award for full time students in good academic standing who are members of the Regular Canadian Armed Forces or Primary Reserve (or members of the immediate family of a Regular Forces member). Application deadline: January 31, 2012

R.E. Waugh 2012-2013 Scholarship - Mr. R.E. Waugh offers an annual scholarship at the University of Manitoba to encourage students, who are the children of Scotiabank employees, to pursue a post-secondary business degree at the University of Manitoba by providing them with a scholarship that covers most of their academic and room and board expenses during four years of study. Application deadline: May 1, 2012

Saunderson and Stanton Awards for Excellence in Teaching - Are you a faculty member, a current student or recent grad? Don't forget to nominate your favourite professor/instructor; nominations are taken all year round.

Bernard J. Persiko Graduate Student Scholarship - A $15,000 USD scholarship for an MA applicant at the Hebrew University. This scholarship has been established in order to allow top Canadian students to benefit from the outstanding Masters programs offered at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Deadline for the application is April 17, 2012. For more details, click here.

Business Council of Manitoba Aboriginal Education Awards: The applications for the 2012-2013 academic year are now available. The Business Council offers awards to assist with the cost of tuition, books and supplies during the academic year. Each award is up to a maximum of $3000 for university and $1500 for college students. All applicants are eligible to reapply each year of their studies for a maximum of three years. Visit the Business Council of Manitoba for eligibility requirements. Application deadline: March 30, 2012.

Canadian International Farm Show Youth in Agriculture Bursary: A bursary, worth $2,500.00, will be awarded to a student currently in their first year of an agricultural related program at an accredited Canadian university or college. Applicants must show both academic achievement and financial need, and must not have reached the age of 30 before January 1st, 2012. Strong preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate rural leadership or strong community involvement in organizations like the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario. Application deadline: March 1, 2012.

Canadian Japanese-Mennonite Scholarship: A $2000 award open to a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant studying at a university in Canada who is enrolled in a graduate degree program engaged in research that will assist the protection of minority or human rights in Canada. Caribou Research and Management Award: Sponsored by the Caribou Management Scholarship Fund, which is maintained by the Beverly and Qamanirjuaq Caribou Management Board (BQCMB), this award is valued at between $1,500 and $5,000. The award is offered to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada enrolled in college or university pursuing studies that contribute to the understanding of barren-ground caribou and their habitat, or that would have application to caribou conservation and management. Students conducting traditional knowledge studies as well as scientific studies are encouraged to apply. EXTENDED application deadline: March 2, 2012.

Dalton Camp Award 2012: The Dalton Camp Award will go to the winner of an essay competition on the link between democracy and the media in Canada. In 2012, there will be one Award consisting of a prize of $5,000, as well as a up to four finalists will also be recognized and awarded a prize of $1,000 each. Application deadline: March 15, 2012.

EXPLORE Program 2012: A five-week intensive language-immersion course. Participants in Explore receive a $2000 bursary that covers tuition fees for the courses, instructional materials, meals and accommodations, workshops, and other mandatory activities. Courses are available in the spring or summer at institutions across Canada. Application deadline: February 28, 2012. Click here for the program brochure and here for the online application.

Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU) Scholarships and Bursaries:

MGEU Bursaries: Each year, the MGEU awards eight bursaries for $1,000 (one per area). Any registered, dues-paying member, or spouse of a member, or child or ward of a member, is eligible. Application deadline: May 14, 2012.
Peter Olfert Scholarship ($2000) is available to an individual studying in a field that potentially impacts public policy (i.e. legislation, programs and services) including, but not restricted to, workplace safety and health, the environment, human rights, community economic development and the role of government and the public sector. Any registered, dues-paying member, or spouse of a member, or child or ward of a member, is eligible. Application deadline: May 14, 2012.
Joseph Grenier Bursary is available to any registered, dues-paying MGEU member of the Healthcare Support Services component, spouse of a Facility Support member, or child or ward of a Facility Support member. The exact amount of this bursary varies from year to year depending on the annual interest earned by a trust fund established in honour of Joseph Grenier. Application deadline: May 14, 2012.

Mona Gray Creative Arts Scholarship: This annual scholarship of $5000 will be awarded to one individual who holds a Bachelor's degree from a Manitoba University and must be pursing graduate studies within the province of Manitoba in one of the following areas: Creative Writing / Film / Fine Arts / Music / Theatre / Dance. Applicants will be assessed upon artistic achievement, financial need, community/volunteer involvement, and academic achievement. Application deadline: February 28, 2012.

National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) Scholarship Program: Each year, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers four scholarships that reflect its pursuit of equal opportunity for all workers. They are open to the children of the National Union’s 340,000 members who are starting a post-secondary education. As an affiliate, all MGEU members are members of NUPGE. Application deadlines: June 30, 2012.

Northern Resident Award (Undergraduate): The Northern Scientific Training Program is sponsoring eight awards, valued at $5,000 each, for Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who are identified as long-term residents of Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon,or the Provincial North*, and are currently enrolled in a post-secondary undergraduate diploma/degree program at a Canadian college or university. Proposals are invited from candidates from all subject areas where the research project (a) results in a significant paper for course credit, (b) includes an aspect of direct northern field research or experience, (c) involves a northern community partner who will directly benefit from the project work, and (d) includes an outreach component or organized outreach activity. EXTENDED application deadline: March 2, 2012.

ODYSSEY Program 2012 - 2013: A program for individuals wanting to become English or French Language Assistants in an elementary or secondary institution of Canada. Language assistants work with teachers and support them by organizing and carrying out games and activities while sharing their language and culture with young Canadians. Open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies. Application deadline: February 15, 2012. Click here for more details.

The Rabin Scholarship Fund for the Advancedment of Peace and Tolerance: Open to students enrolled in an accredited doctoral or post doctoral program focusing on areas related to the pursuit of peace and/or to the enhancement of peaceful forms of social life.Value of award: $15,000 USD. Schulich Leader Scholarships: Graduating high school students planning to study one of the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at designated universities are eligible to become Schulich Leaders. The four-year Schulich Leader Scholarships are valued at $60,000. Twenty Canadian and five Israeli* recipients will be chosen in 2012 to study one of the STEM subjects in their respective countries. UNESCO-L'Oréal for Women in Science International Fellowships: $20,000 USD is granted annually to promising young women scientists, at the doctorate or post-doctorate level, in the Life Sciences to encourage international scientific cooperation and the developing of cross-cultural networks. Application deadline: March 15, 2012.

Valerie Whalley Education Foundation Fund: The purpose of this Scholarship Fund is to provide financial assistance to individuals pursuing a post-secondary education, who have been adversely affected by the death of a family member, through the actions of an impaired driver. The Guidelines and Criteria section specifies impairment as either alcohol or drug related, and defines who qualifies as a family member. Each scholarship shall be for a minimum of $2,500.00 to a maximum of $15,000.00 yearly. Application deadline: May 1, 2012. Click here for more details.

Youth Leaders in Action Scholarship - United Way Winnipeg: Designed to recognized the contributions of young community leaders and encourage them to keep up the great work. In 2012, four scholarship of $500 each will be awarded to young people under the age of 25 who have made a difference in the community. Deadline: February 10, 2012. Be aware of deadlines! Many awards require official transcripts, which can take several days to obtain. Also, don't forget to consider time to have your application mailed/couriered.
