Academic Advising:

The Intensive Academic English Program (IAEP) has a dedicated Academic Advisor available for student support, especially for those in Level 5 planning their next steps into a degree program.

Socio-Cultural Competency Training (SCT):

The SCT is an optional communication skills training that utilizes cultural theories, role playing, video clips, group discussions and cultural coaches to help international students navigate cultural interactions and communication. The training is offered each term, and students must apply to participate.

Students who complete the 10-hour SC Training will receive a Co-Curricular Record (CCR) from the Student Life office at U of M.

Faculty Information Sessions:

The ELC hosts advisors from U of M faculties to present information about degree programs and requirements to Level 5 IAEP students.

University of Manitoba Information Presentations:

As part of the curriculum, presentations are given to Level 5 students to prepare them for university studies. Presentations include:

  • Academic Preparation
    Admissions: How and when to apply for University courses.
  • Student Advocacy: How to be a successful student and know the role of academic honesty at a Canadian university.
  • University of Manitoba Libraries: How to do research, navigate campus libraries and use academic sources.
  • Live Lectures: University of Manitoba professors give first-year lectures.
