Effective September 1st, 2018, international students will no longer be eligible for Manitoba Health coverage.
English Language Centre (ELC) students enrolled in the Intensive Academic English Program (IAEP) will be required to enroll in the Guard me Canada Health Insurance Plan. This plan will be offered at the $1.45 CAD/day rate, approximately $45.00 CAD/month. $194.00 CAD/Winter Term (includes $20.00 Administration fee).
International students who register at the English Language Centre will automatically be enrolled in the Guard me Health Insurance Plan. In order to be registered in the Guard me Health Care Plan/Insurance, students must submit their visa and pay the following fees before December 17, 2018:
Tuition: $4,300.00 CAD
Guard me Health Insurance Plan: $194.00 CAD
Total: $4,494.00 CAD

Students who have registered for the Winter 2019 term will receive their policy number and ID card by e-mail (to the email students provided in their application) before Dec. 21, 2018. Students will be covered from January 1st to April 30th, 2019.
The University of Manitoba will be closed Dec. 22-January 2, 2019. Students who do not pay tuition or submit their visa before the deadline of Dec. 17, 2018 are responsible for purchasing their own insurance before travelling to Canada. Once students are registered in the IAEP, they will be covered under the Guard me Health Care Plan.
Students that do not have the Guard me Health Care insurance, will not be allowed to attend any ELC classes.
Students that successfully finish level 5 in the ELC, and that enroll in degree programs at the University of Manitoba, will be required to enroll in the University of Manitoba International Student Health Care Plan. This plan is administered by Blue Cross and Student Care.
