Career Planning Resources
Available to U of M Students...
Career Orientations:
These orientations are geared towards students who are just
beginning their career search. They are designed to introduce
students to the variety of resources available in Career
Services and help them decide which ones are most appropriate
for them. The orientation is 2 hours long, with the last 30
minutes set aside for individual consultation with a career
counsellor. These information sessions are held frequently
throughout the year and are open to U of M students at no cost.
Career Assessment and Testing:
After attending an orientation, students may choose from
the following options:
- Career Values Inventories
- Career Interest Inventories
- Personality Indicators
- Self-Directed Exercises
- Career Search Groups
Career Resource Centre:
The Career Resource Centre is the place for students to go if
they want to explore occupational options and search for
educational alternatives. The centre has a large number of
holdings in a multi-media format, including:
- Educational Information
- Occupational Information
- Career Planning and Job Search Manuals
- Company Resource Library
- Business Directories, Magazines, and Newspapers
- Labour Market Information
- Entrepreneurial Resources
Career Mentor Program:
The Career Mentor program allows students to gain valuable
insight into the world of work by connecting them with committed
professionals. Students visit a mentor in the workplace for an
informational interview lasting approximately one hour. Job
shadowing and site tours are sometimes arranged as well.
