UNIV. OF MANITOBA ACCESS PROGRAM (UMAP)

What is it?

Located at the University of Manitoba, the program provides a support network designed to increase student success.

  • Intended for a first degree in any faculty.


Who is Eligible?

  • The priority groups are those individuals who have not had the opportunity for successful university experience due to social, economic, geographic and cultural barriers, or a lack of formal education.
  • Preference will be given to Aboriginal people (Métis, Status, Non-Status, Inuit), residents of Northern Manitoba and low income earners.
  • You must qualify for regular university entrance or be a mature student.
  • Successful applicants are chosen in the spring for the fall term.


What services are provided?

  • Personal and Academic Counselling
  • Tutorial Services
  • Extensive orientation to university expectations
  • A staff taught credit course on study skills and exam preparation
  • A limited amount of financial assistance in the form of a bursary may be available to some students who have no other means of funding, or who exemplify the greatest need.
