The new Aboriginal House represents not only the culmination of a dream, but also ushers in a new era of opportunities for the Aboriginal community on campus.
The two-storey brick and stone building reflects First Nation, Métis and Inuit cultural values. Featuring a sustainable design, the Aboriginal House offers a sunny central gathering space for Aboriginal students and others, a spacious student lounge, comfortable study areas, and a circular Ceremony Room. The Aboriginal Student Centre makes its new home here, as do other units involved with Aboriginal programs and services.

The Aboriginal Student Centre (ASC) is a place that provides students with the support and assistance for academic, cultural, financial, and personal needs. There are academic advisors who can assist you with filling out applications, course selection and registration assistance, navigating the university system, tutorial referrals, and advocacy issues. There are cultural support networks like the Elders-in-Residence, Elders’ Gathering, sharing circles, and the Annual Traditional Graduation Pow Wow. Not to mention the ASC is a source of information for students to find information on Aboriginal-specific scholarships, job postings, social activities, volunteer opportunities, referrals to other support programs, and much more!

“At the Aboriginal Student Centre everyone is so helpful. They have things like photocopying, faxing, and computers for us to use and they will at any time answer our questions about courses, schedules, and scholarships. The Centre also has an Aboriginal Lounge that helps new students, like me, meet other Aboriginal students. Even though the university is big, the centre is a small community.” Clayton Thomas, U1 student
