Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I have to enter the information for my CV myself?
A. The Data Entry Team will enter your complete CV for you the first time.
Q. Does a CV produced from this system include all section headings shown in the Generic CV, even if I have no entries in that section?
A. Only sections that contain entries appear on a CV.
A. Yes. Please contact the project owner at curriculum_vitae@umanitoba.ca, to request an additional bibliographic style.
Q. Some entries in my CV should not be on a public web site (such as the names of current graduate students), yet I still want to include these items in my CV when I print it. How can I do this?
A. Items appearing in a CV are usually in the public domain. However, some items, such as students currently being supervised, or certain consulting work should not appear on a public web page. At the bottom of the screen where the record is entered, click on the option for internal.
Q. I maintain my own web pages. How can I include a link from my web site to the CV in this system?
A. In the left column on the navigation tree, click on "Personal Options", check the box next to "Publish CV?". A link should appear that includes a security key. Copy and paste this link in your web site.
Q. How do I produce a CV that I can edit using WordPerfect?
A. When creating a CV Report, choose the output format, "Word". The file created will be in rich text format (rtf) and can be opened by many word processors including WordPerfect and Word.
Q. I need my CV in PDF format, how do I do that?
A. Produce the CV in "Word" format, open your CV using your word processor, then use the PDF generator with your word processor to create a PDF document.
Q. Can I submit my CV in an acceptable format directly to a funding agency?
A. Currently no, but we are working so that you can electronically submit a correctly formatted CV to a funding agency. This should be available in 2007. On request to curriculum_vitae@umanitoba.ca, we can create CV formats acceptable to many outside agencies.
Q. When I print the html version of my CV, the margins are too small and the url is printed on every page. How can this be changed?
A. On your browser change the settings in File > Page Setup. The header likely has &u which tells the browser to print the the url on every page. Enter your name instead to have your name printed at the top of every page. Enter &bPage &p of &P to have the page number printed on each page.
