Road Closures

Dysart Road Condensate Leak

  • Timeframe (est.): Starting February 13, 2023 until early November 

  • Overview: Dysart Rd. is now open. Sidney Smith St. at Dysart Rd. will be closed until November. During the closure, access to Parking Lot Q is off Dysart Rd. see map for location.
    Construction activity is due to a condensate leak and ongoing steam/condensate replacement project. 
    Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Road Construction and Infrastructure Renewal

    Please be advised that campus wide road construction and infrastructure renewal work is expected to continue through the fall. Please refer to the attached map and information below:

    •    Zone 1: Dysart Road closed at Sidney Smith Street for a steam line replacement. Dysart Rd. to reopen mid-September with project completion anticipated in November. See previous story: UM Today | Dysart Road closure — update (umanitoba.ca)
    •    Zone 2: Curry Place south of the Education Building will be impacted by storm sewer repair starting late July. 
    •    UPDATE - Zone 3: Dafoe Road surface rehabilitation is now complete. Dafoe Road and adjacent Parking Lots are now open. Transit has resumed normal operations.
    •    Zone 4: University Crescent will be impacted by construction to address a condensate leak. One lane will be closed southbound University Cres. during construction.
    •    Campus-wide road, parking lot and walkway repairs in July/August.

    Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Caution should be taken at all times during construction. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Architecture 2

  • Timeframe (Est): Feb 15th, 2024 until further notice

  • Overview: Washrooms located at rooms 113 and 114 in the Architecture 2 building are temporarily closed due to a breach in the drain line in the crawl space.
    Our plumbing shop is currently working on formulating a repair plan to address the issue promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
    In the meantime, we will be posting signs to help direct you to the nearest available bathroom locations within the building. Your understanding and cooperation during this time are greatly appreciated.

Ellis

  • Overview: Starting April 4, 2024,  the Ellis Building Link East Entrance and Access Ramp (see attached plan) will be closed for demolition and replacement.  During this time there will be no public access to the East entrance door to either enter or exit the building.  The contractor will begin setting up the exterior construction fencing starting April 4th, closing off public access to the east entrance.  On the interior of the building, the contractor will hoard off the doors and post signage notifying of the closure and directing occupants to use the West entrance doors.  For the duration of the construction the West Link entrance doors will be open and available for use, a temporary ramp has been constructed at the West entrance.

Education

  • Overview: Starting April 2, 2024 the Education Building Level 200 South Entrance, Vestibule 202 (see attached plan) will be closed for the demolition and replacement of the exterior entrance podium and stairs.  The contractor will begin setting up the exterior construction fencing starting April 2nd, closing off public access to the entrance doors and stairs/podium.  On the interior of the South entrance doors the contractor will hoard off the doors and post signage notifying of the closure and directing occupants to the building’s other exit locations.  For the duration of the construction from April 2nd thru July 31st, 2024 there will be no public access to the South entrance doors to either enter or exit the building.  

    Fire Department access will be maintained at the South entrance for the duration of the construction.

This shutdown will affect electrical receptacles, lab bench receptacles and lighting starting on Wednesday, 04/10/24 to Wednesday, 04/24/24 between the hours of 07:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.. Note, if there are further issues/ concerns affecting the adjacent lab spaces to D329, kindly report them to the contacts listed below.

Parking Lot A

  • Overview: We are in the final repair stages of having the North generator put back online. The temporary generator in parking lot A (see map for location) currently cannot be removed until a full load test to the existing one has been completed. 

    On Monday April 13th, a semi and trailer will be bringing a load bank and transformer to perform this task. Once the load test has been completed, we will be arranging to remove all the trailers from parking lot A.

Helen Glass Building

  • Overview: Please be advised that washroom #273 in Helen Glass will undergo maintenance from April 29th, 2024, to May 10th, 2024.
    During this period, the washroom will not be operational.  An alternative washroom within the Helen Glass Building, also located on level 200, is washroom #239.
    Washrooms #139, 339, and 314 are also available as secondary alternatives.

  • Overview: The fire sprinkler system coverage on Level 300 in Dentistry will be offline during the indicated time, Friday, 04/19/24 between the hours of 07:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  This work is part of the Dentistry Rm. D329 Lab Renovation. During the period when the fire sprinkler is out of service for the entirety of Level 300, fire watch will be provided by the Contractor between the hours of 07:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. of the shutdown period. If you notice any fire or smoke, please exit the building immediately and activate a nearest manual fire alarm pull station on your way out.

Extended Education Building

  • Overview: Please be advised the sanitary main, domestic cold and hot water and tempered water will be offline temporarily for Pathology Levels 000-300 on Tuesday, 04/16/24 between the hours of 6:00 am. to 7:30 am. During the shutdown timeframe, please do not use the washrooms, kitchenettes, and drinking fountains. Please use the washrooms in Med Rehab during the scheduled shutdown period. RO water supply will not be affected during this scheduled shutdown.
