Frank C. Hawthorne

Canada Research Chair in Crystallography and Mineralogy
Distinguished Professor; Ph.D. McMaster University, 1973

General Research Interests:

Crystallography and crystal chemistry of all mineral groups; cation ordering in crystals; the general architecture of crystal structures; spectroscopic methods in mineralogy.

Student Research Programs available.

Research interests:

  1. Structural crystallography, particularly the solution of crystal structures of minerals, with a view to developing hierarchical schemes of structure architecture.

    M.Sc. and Ph.D. projects available.

  2. Crystal chemistry, particularly the application of structure refinement spectroscopy and microprobe analysis to the solution of petrogenetic problems involving ferromagnesian minerals.

    M.Sc. and Ph.D projects available.
