All Around Me … All Around You: Bernice Vincent - Recent Works

February 8 - March 1, 1996

“All Around Me…All Around You: Bernice Vincent, Recent Work”  is an exhibition of a painting environment consisting of 52 panels, each painted during a different week between the spring equinoxes of 1992 and 1993, plus two more  recent works by Bernice Vincent, an artist from London, Ontario. Although Vincent was part of the “Swinging London” scene of the 1960s and has shown extensively in Ontario for three decades, this will be her first exhibition in Manitoba. Her work records careful observations of daily life. In a brochure written for the exhibition, guest curator Robert McKaskell says the work “connects us directly with the Great Canadian Narrative – our unpredictably changing  weather.” The work encourages us to think of the passing of time. MacKaskell writes ”… time doesn’t fly. Nor does it creep along. We can’t waste it or lose it or spend it or even use it carefully because it is a continuum.”
