    • The aim of this study is to follow criminal justice intervention in historical abuse cases. All historical abuse cases reported to the Winnipeg Police from 1989 to 1994 were followed from police investigation, through court to sentencing.

    • The aim of this project is to study the socialization of nonviolence in families with young children by comparing children who have witnessed spousal abuse to those who have not. This project investigates the development of both constructive conflict management processes and destructive conflict management processes in parent-child and sibling relationships over time. The relation of these conflict processes to the quality of family relationships, and to the children's adjustment will also be assessed.

    • The proposed research will evaluate the impact of "Healthy Relationships" program. Evaluation will be carried out over three years, so that both the long and short term effects of the program on violent behaviour and victimization can be measured.

    • To research and develop evaluation tools for visiting access centres who access services funded by dispute services. 
  6. Evaluation of Alpha House Programs

    • Start Date:October 1998 - End Date: April 2000
    • To explore how programs at Alpha House are impacting its clients. Interviews are held with current clients at 4 time periods, intake, 3 months into stay, at departure, and a 3 month follow up. Telephone interviews are also held with former clients. The interviews will be analysed to see if clients were successful in meeting goals established at the beginning of the stay at alpha house and specific questions on the programming the clients received.

    • The primary goal of this project was to ascertain Aboriginal inmates' acceptance of the Family Violence Program at Stony Mountain Correctional Institute. The investigation focussed on inmates expectations of and satisfaction with the program, their perception of its effectiveness and applicability, and their thoughts on the cultural aspects of the program.
  8. Health Care Professionals and Training Resources on the Abuse of Seniors

    • This project consists of a scan of the resources currently used in Canada to train health care professionals and front line workers in the detection, intervention, and prevention of abuse of the elderly. Recommendations for effective dissemination of future resource training manuals will be made.
  9. Recidivism Rates Among Wife Abuse Offenders Mandated to the Manitoba Corrections Short Term Intervention Project (STIP)

    • The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the Short Term Intervention Program (STIP) on spouse abuse offenders. STIP is a twenty-six hour psycho-educational program offered by Manitoba Corrections. A comparative examination of recidivism between STIP graduates and a control group was conducted two years after the completion of their sentences. This study indicated that there was a reduction of recidivism among STIP graduates.

    • The purpose of this study was to determine if there is under-use of the data with the Westman and Central regional shelters and to determine the cause of this under-use by comparing referral patterns and program services of the participating shelters.
  13. An Evaluation of Childhood Sexual Abuse Workshop for Manitoba Service Providers

    • Start Date: May, 1995 End Date: October, 1995 To study the effects of workshops on childhood sexual abuse survivors. These workshops were administered to Manitoba service providers. The study involved a quasi-experimental cross-over design. Measurement included changes in provider knowledge attitudes and skill. The assessment package includes standardized measures and questionnaires specifically constructed for this evaluation. A manual for this project was produced.
  14. CHOICES Youth Program - An Evaluation of the CHOICES Youth Program: A Youth Participant Perspective

    • The CHOICES Youth Program is a program for youth at risk. In conjunction with other community agencies such as the Winnipeg Police Department, Winnipeg School Division #1 is completed its first year of program delivery. It is at this point that an evaluation of the program seemed warranted in order to assess its achievements and acceptability among the program recipients. This evaluation will allow for improvements in subsequent years of delivery.

    • Interviews were conducted with persons in their homes or in locations preferred by the interviewees. This process was followed by the compilation of a written report of the findings of the research.
  17. A Critical Link: Measuring the Impact of the Family Violence Counselling Program at Nor'West Co-op Community Health Centre

    • Start Date: May , 1996 End Date: June, 1997
    • NorthWest Co-op Community Health Centre Family Violence Counselling Program has been providing services to women experiencing violence in their homes and families - specifically; counselling, support, advocacy and education. The evaluation was designed to determine the impact of the program on the lives of the women who accessed services. Through a qualitative intake form and several subsequent interviews conducted by the counsellor, the clients indicated short and long term goals, and the levels of satisfaction with the program. The evaluation stated conclusively that participation in the program was causally connected to women living independent of abuse, getting treatment for issues of substance abuse, retrieving children from apprehension and moving forward with long term efforts towards health and independence.

    • This project consisted of updating the current case load of the Women's Advocacy Program. Files were checked for dispositions and the dates of those dispositions. Cases were then closed on the computer program so that an accurate count of cases could be conducted.
  19. Development of Evaluation Forms for Family Dispute Services of Manitoba

One was ongoing evaluation forms for clients of services of abused women in Manitoba which are funded by Family Dispute Services. The second was the creation of evaluation forms for staff of these services.
