Research summary

Dr. Barbara Shay's current research interests revolve around pain assessment and treatment. She is a researcher at the Spinal Cord Research Centre, University of Manitoba, and her current research interests include objective pain outcome measures, acupuncture as a therapeutic modality, motion analysis in functional activities, basic science: effects of descending neurotransmitters and modulation in the spinal cord processing of nociceptive and non-nociceptive information. Since 2004, Dr. Shay has been the primary investigator or co-investigator on over $1.6M in funded research projects.

Biography

Dr. Barbara Shay is an associate professor at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba. She is a practicing physiotherapist with over 25 years of experience and has taken numerous post-graduate education courses, including acupuncture, manual therapy, mobilization of the nervous system and exercise. Dr. Shay has been involved in the Physical Therapy program at the University of Manitoba since 1991 and has been an invited speaker at the Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association.
