Eligibility Requirements for Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program

Prior to entering the Physical Therapy program, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status at the time of application.

  2. An accredited 3 or 4 year undergraduate degree in any area of study, recognized by the University of Manitoba. For 2020 admission, degrees must be conferred by the Fall of 2020.

  3. Successful completion of at least 24 credit hours in one regular Fall/Winter academic session (from September to April).

  4. A minimum grade point average of 3.25 in the last 60 credit hours* of university-level study.

  5. Equivalent IB and/or AP courses will be accepted in lieu of prerequisite courses.

  6. Successful completion of the Multiple Mini-Interview. Interviews for 2020 are scheduled for March 14 and 15, 2020.

  7. A minimum grade of a 3.0 or a “B” in the following prerequisite courses:

    • Human Anatomy (3 credit hours)
    • Human Physiology (3 credit hours)
    • Introductory Biology with genetics content (3 credit hours)
    • Introductory Psychology (6 credit hours)
    • Childhood Psychology (3 credit hours)
    • Aging (3 credit hours)
    • Introductory Statistics (3 credit hours)
    • English Literature (6 credit hours)

Note: It is NOT permissible to use one three credit hour course to meet two different prerequisite courses. All prerequisite courses need to be completed by the Fall term in the year prior to entry. In other words, for Fall 2020 entry, prerequisite courses must be completed by December 31, 2019. Human Physiology must be completed within five years of application (no earlier than 2015); all other prerequisite courses need to have been completed within the last 10 years (no earlier than 2010) or the equivalency within higher level courses. French Literature (6 credit hours) can be substituted in lieu of English Literature.

* For MPT admission interview purposes, courses completed up to and including all courses to December 31st of the academic year in which the applicant is applying will be included in the calculation of the GPA. If a student is recommended to the MPT program with outstanding coursework, final official transcripts will be required showing that all coursework has been successfully completed and that the GPA in the most recent 60 credit hours has remained at a 3.25 or higher.

Meeting the above eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission as entry into the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program is competitive.
