Past Events 2013

  • The third "Learning Health Promotion Interprofessionally" will be held on March 13, 2013. This event continues to build on the enormous success of the previous IPE events held in 2012. This March, 481 students from nine academic units (Dental Hygiene, Pharmacy, Human Nutritional Science, Kinesiology & Recreation Managment, PAEP, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Medicine and Social Work) along 50 facilitators across both University of Manitoba campuses will be participating.
  • On February 1, 2013 the Skills Lab in the Faculty of Nursing was transformed into a mock hospital for the third annual Nightmare/Nightcare event.  Students took on the roles of patients, nurses and physicians and worked collaboratively to ‘solve’ cases in interprofessional teams. Prior to the event, students met to discuss roles and responsibilities in preparation for the 12-hour shift. The primary goal of the event is to provide a safe environment for health care students to learn “with from and about each other” in a simulated collaborative setting. The event also allows students to experience the unique issues and responsibilities of working a night shift. This year approximately 51 students from the Faculties of Nursing, Medicine and Pharmacy participated with support from the faculty planning group comprised of Fiona Jensen, Barb Goodwin, Nicole Harder (Nursing), Nancy Kleiman (Pharmacy) Dr. Heather Dean, and Dr. Rob Brown. Barb Goodwin, Nancy Kleiman and Dr. Rob Brown served as facilitators for the student teams. We are delighted to report that a growing number of academic units are requesting participation in the event and that student feedback was excellent.
