Olympic Gold Medallist Donovan Bailey will compete in the 1999 Pan
American Games. Bailey, the fastest man in the world, won the gold medal with a
time of 9.84, setting a new world record, for the Men's 100 Metre Final at the
1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics.
"It is always very special to compete for one's country, especially on home
turf", said Bailey. "I'm really looking forward to returning to Winnipeg in '99
and going for gold in competition with some of the best athletes from the
Americas."

'99 Games Continue the Legacy
In 1967, Winnipeg hosted the Pan Am Games. Then, as now, The University of
Manitoba played an integral part in hosting the Games. In 1999, the U of M is
poised to repeat its successful role. As site of three sports venues and the
largest of the three main athletes' villages, the Fort Garry campus will be
alive with activity as the Americas come to play.
