Recent Research Highlights
2008 is shaping up to be an exciting year. Three new graduate students have recently joined our team. The Glenlea long-term organic crop rotation is entering its 17th season! This summer we plan to build a “little house on the prairie” at the Glenlea site. We have added a new field site in Saskatchewan – at Oxbow. Our organic wheat breeding (Anne Kirk and Stephen Fox) and no-till organic green manure projects (Iris Vaisman) will both have sites at Oxbow. In 2008, our nutrient recycling work will add a new wrinkle– using manure from animals that consumed tannin-containing plants (Robert Kazuk and Kim Ominski). We are curious to know how plant tannins act to improve soil C sequestration.
