Health Systems Research

Thérèse A. Stukel, PhD, is a Professor of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences and a Professor at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical practice in Hanover, NH. She was statistical director of the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care from 1995 to 2003 and co-authored two influential publications on the U.S. healthcare system demonstrating that higher health care spending did not lead to better outcomes.

Her current research interests are in the effects of health system resources and organization on delivery of care and outcomes in Canada and the U.S., including international comparative studies. With the support of a CIHR Team Grant, she is creating virtual physician-hospital networks in Ontario and evaluating their performance in managing patients with chronic disease.

She has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles in medical and statistical journals. She was nominated as Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2007.
