Sophia Schlette, MPH Harvard ’93, is Senior International Adviser to the Chair at KBV, Germany’s statutory physicians association, representing 150.000 specialists and GPs that provide ambulatory care to all publicly insured residents. Prior to that, she set up an office for international coordination and knowledge translation at the Federal Joint Committee, the paramount non-governmental HTA and decision-making entity with large mandatory competencies.
From 2009 to 2010, during the US health care reform debate, Sophia served as Senior International Advisor at Kaiser Permanente’s Institute for Health Policy, Oakland, CA. She is a health policy specialist with broad international experience including a recent consultancy stint with the World Bank Institute. Professional interests range from strategic challenges of health system organization, levers for health policy reform, evidence-informed health policy to organizational challenges such as key features and enablers of integrated delivery systems.
Founder and manager of two global expert networks including the International Network Health Policy & Reform at the Bertelsmann Stiftung based in Germany. Consulted with a previous Federal Minister of Health in Germany, organized and facilitated policy dialogues, expert seminars, and transatlantic health study tours on a variety of issues, editor of a book series (Health Policy Developments) and developer / manager of an innovative online journal (www.healthpolicymonitor.org) Has worked in multiple professional and cultural environments, including public and private sector, government, philanthropy, research, and development cooperation organizations.
